It’s week eight of the One Room Challenge, which means it’s REVEAL DAY! And I’m so excited to share our finished library and porch with you all today!

I know all you really care about are the pictures, so I’ll try not to bore you with too many words. 😉

Library/ Media Room – Before & After

Home &Amp; Garden One Room Challenge Fall 2021: Week Eight – Home Library &Amp; Porch – The Reveal!

To be fair, this isn’t a before photo from 8 weeks ago; it’s from 2 years ago. The room had already been painted this gorgeous shade of blue – Hunley from the Duron Collection for Sherwin Williams – before the ORC began. But over the past 8 weeks, all of the finishing details were added to the space, including this beautiful metallic wallpaper from Calico Corners. Long live the 5th wall!

As much as I love all the big, impactful design elements I added to the space over the last 8 weeks, some of the littlest details are my absolute favorites, like these matchbooks that were gifted to me by my sister a couple of years ago and this new-to-me coffee table book that I love.

The Lighting & Furniture Details

The sconces I already had, but I replaced the ceiling fan with this crystal chandelier that I scored at a local lighting outlet (after I accidentally broke the original fixture I had planned to use).

Blue Library Media Room

Thankfully, this little design accident had a happy ending as I actually like this crystal chandelier even more than the fixture I had originally planned to use. It adds the perfect touch of glam to the room and looks great with the metallic wallpaper.

This Hudson Valley Lighting Flare floor lamp balances that glam and brings in a casual, classic vibe. And I love it tucked into this corner in front of the Spoonflower curtain panels. (*I used two 108″ panels on each side to get the width I needed for this large sliding door.)

Considering the size of the room and the dark wall color, I had an outlet added to the floor (back when we were building the house), so that I could add a console table to the back of this sofa for a table lamp. I had to hunt down this HVL Tang lamp because it’s been discontinued, but it was so worthwhile. I’m so in love with this oversized, oxblood table lamp!

To create a cohesive look in this large space, I used repeating patterns. Hexagons can be found throughout the space, from the console table to the side tables and even this Minted x West Elm leopard hexagon ottoman. It’s not a super obvious design element, but I dig how that subtle detail ties the space together!

The Dry Bar

The dry bar underwent a pretty dramatic makeover. As a remider, here’s a look at how it looked before.

Dry Bar Before

As soon as I decided to have this insanely gorgeous antique mirror tile added to the backsplash, I knew I wanted to add a pendant light over the space to furhter highlight the tile, especially at night! The Dorset pendant, with its timeless, classic silhouette, flows really nicely with the tile.

And the Reade modern table lamp works well as a night light and adds a touch of whimsy.

Antique Mirror Tile

I built a couple of floating shelves and added the prettiest antique brass shelf hardware.

And I’m in love with the juxtaposition of the glam tile with stained wood shelves.

Library Floating Shelves

I stained the floating shelves black to match the cabinetry, but opted for a walnut stain on the bar top for subtle contrast.

Room to Grow

I love to read and having a home library has always been a dream of mine. So this space is so very special and sacred to me! And I’m thrilled that I still have lots of empty shelves. The books in our library have either been inherited or collected with purpose and intention. These aren’t decor props. And I think all of my reading friends would agree that a true home library is never done. There are always more books to read and to collect! And I’m excited to take my time adding more!

Porch Before & After

And now for the porch reveal! As you know, our library/ media room walks out to a covered porch, so I decided to tackle both spaces.

This covered porch was a true blank slate.

And I had so much fun giving it a mega dose of personality!

Hands down, the hexagon floor tile from The Tile Shop was a gamechanger out here. *And there’s that hexagon pattern again! 😉

Spoonflower Fabrics

Speaking of pattern, Spoonflower made it really easy for me to make this porch feel like an extension of the library. Because they offer outdoor fabric, I had pillow covers made for the porch using the same pattern as the library curtains and throw pillow covers. So the spaces flow seamlessly.

I was even able to have a throw blanket made using my beloved Ming Tiger!

To further connect the two spaces, I painted the porch ceiling the same color as the library walls.

And I made this tile coffee table with this track stack tile in navy. I’ll be sharing all the DIY details in a blog post very soon!

Working on these two spaces over the past 8 weeks has been an exhaustingly good time! 😉 It’s such an honor to have been chosen as a Featured Designer this season, and I’ve truly enjoyed every single minute. I’m thrilled with how these spaces came together using a mix of vintage and new, previously collected and newly acquired, some hired help and some literal blood, sweat and yes, even tears. I can’t begin to thank you all enough for cheering me on to the finish line! Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it!

What is the One Room Challenge?!

The ORC is an online interior design event, organized by Linda Weinstein, where 20 Featured Designers and hundreds of other Guest Participants transform a room of their choice in just 8 weeks. With Better Homes & Gardens as the media sponsor, this biannual challenge is always brimming with design inspiration. Not only does this event inspire and motivate, but it also creates a supportive creative community.  I’m always blown away by the spaces created each season, so it’s an absolute honor to be counted as a Featured Designer this fall!
